Teach Kids to Swim

According KidsHealth.org, drowning is the second-leading cause of death for children and teenager ages 5-24 years old. By teaching children to swim, they can reduce the risk of drowning as they can overcome their anxiety & also know how to save themselves when they familiar with water activities.

There are many benefits to swimming for children's physical, mental and emotional development. Here are some of the benefits of swimming for kids reported by the study and experts.

1. Children Become Agile

Our children are born with an active, playful, curious nature. Therefore, we should encourage our children to engage in activities that enhance their potential.
One of the best activities is swimming activities. In one observation, NTNU's Professor Hermundur Sigmundsson and Lancaster University's Professor Brian Hopkins compared 19 infants that teach to swim and 19 other non-swimmers.

When they reach 5 years old, both groups were tested with exercises such as balance (standing on one foot), jumping ropes and catching pillows. The difference in their abilities was surprising. "We see very clearly that swimmers can do the exercise well, when it comes to balance and ability to catching things," says Professor Sigmundsson.

2. Strengthens Muscles

Every time after a swim session the kids would often fall asleep and get hungry. This is because when swimming, their body needs to release more energy to swim. So, with regular swimming routine, the kid's muscles will be stronger and flexed, especially on the triceps, chest, and front thighs.

3. Good for Heart and Lung

According to research by the British Journal and Sports Medicine, swimming can reduce the risk of heart disease by up to 40%. This is because when swimming, the heart muscle works better in pumping blood to the entire body. In addition, it also expands the capacity of the lungs to function optimally.

4. Reduce Stress

Even nowadays children may be exposed to stress from the busy activities of busy working parents. Based on information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, swimming can increase endorphins or happy hormones in the body, reducing their stress levels.

5. High IQ

Some studies such as those conducted by the Griffith Institute, Australia have found that children who are exposed to early swimming activities achieve faster development. These developments are not limited to motor skills such as paper cutting and drawing, but they also involve more complex skills such as language skills, math, writing, and ability follow instruction.
