Sleep in The Dark

Children who sleep with the lights on, will be at risk of suffering from leukemia. The scientist said that the body needs a dark atmosphere to produce chemicals to fight cancer. Even with the light from the toilet, bedroom and street can stop the production of those chemicals.

The body needs the chemicals to prevent DNA damage. Sleeping with the light switch on could cause the body to stop the production of melatonin.

Prof. Russle Reiter from Texas University who led the study, said: "Once you go to bed without switch off the light even for 1 minute, your brain immediately detect that the light switch on for a day and the producing of melatonin decrease."

The number of children who suffer from leukemia doubles in the past 40 years. Approximately 500 children under 15 years old was suffering with this disease each year and about 100 died.

A conference held in London on child suffering leukemia stated that they suffered from cancer due to sleep with the light on for a long duration during bedtime compare to those who never switch on the light during bedtime.

This situation inhibit the melatonin production where normally occurs between 9 pm to 8 am. Previous research shown that people who are most vulnerable are shift workers who have risk to suffer breast cancer.

So, the parents are advised to use the gloomy bedroom lights either red or yellow if the children are afraid of the dark.
